Today just a few photos from My Khe (China Beach) in Da Nang.
The locals here follow the most stringent sun protection regimen I have ever seen.
As a result, it's the only tourist beach I have ever seen that's empty during the day because the sun is out
At sunrise the peeps are up and onto the beach – before the crack of dawn for swimming and exercise.
Next up is coffee, then work.
At 7am the beach is clear of people – it changes from Saigon at peak hour to a remote destination.
Next flurry of action is at 5pm when the beaches are again swamped with humanity.
Along the beach street vendors spring up with snacks and other tempting victuals for the famished swimmers.
Without further ado, here's last night's selection.
The beach, above. Very nice for swimming. Highly recommended for a visit.
Our first lucky vendor has steamed buns with a savoury filling.
The old balls on skewers trick.
All sorts of meat and seafood balls, sausages etc on sticks, and below some corn for stir frying.
And after a dip in the briny blue sea, drinks are no doubt pretty good sellers too.
Especially for the less competent swimmers.
A bit of salad for the fit, healthy, beautiful people who care about their waistline and struggling aorta.
Wee clear dumplings filled with shrimp. These are a Danang classic, although I'm not so keen on them myself.
Please enlighten me in the comments section if you know – they're made with tapioca flour aren't they?
The smiling sugar cane lady – delicious
And below, an equally smiling corn dude.
And for 'salad dodgers' like me, there are sticky rice cakes and some deepfried prawn baguette toasts.
These get served with a chilli sauce – not too crazy hot, but nice.
This was my snack after a 3.5km walk. 2000 vnd each (about 10c each)
Corn man 2 comes in for the kill.
And this kid goes after a kite.
These guys are colourful and big as they wheel along the street on their gaudy bikes.
Yibbida Yibbida – that's it folks.
Right now doing Bombe Alaska, pavlova, pastry and lime curd butter, so hopefully something on those items will follow.
Have a great one.
